"One Another"

Image
I was doing foot care for a senior lady this afternoon. She is 91 and still lives alone. She told me she has 4 friends who she faithfully calls every morning. They check in on each other. If one is in need, they help each other out. One of these friends is 94, and still lives alone, has a garden, drives, and picks my friend up 3 times a week for exercise classes. Hearing this made me think of the many times the Bible talks about, " One another ." Here are a few of them. How much better our lives would be if we were more connected to each other, looking out for the needs of those around us. Would depression, anxiety, and loneliness be eradicated? "...that there should be no schism in the body, but  that  the members should have the same care for  one   another ." 1 Corinthians 12:25 " ...through love serve  one   another . " Galatians 5:13 " Bear  one   another ’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. " Galatians 6:2 " And be kin...

The Quiet place

Image
A man full of Leprosy had just been healed. Report was going around concerning Jesus all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So Jesus often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. " -Luke 5:12-16 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. And the whole city was gathered together at the door.  Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him. Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You." But He said to them, "Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth." -Mark 1:32-38...

Hungry

Image
I opened my Bible and began reading Luke 5, but stopped half way through verse one. "So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him (Jesus) to hear the the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret..." "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:6) He answered and said, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) "Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts." (Jeremiah 15:16) How different our world would be if we were hungry to hear the Word of God! Ancient Words Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world They resound with God's own heart Oh, let the ancient words impart Words of Life, words of Hope Give us strength, help us cope In this world, where e'er we ...

Weak but Strong

Image
There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer; the rock badgers are a feeble folk, yet they make their homes in the crags; the locusts have no king, yet they all advance in ranks; the spider skillfully grasps with its hands, and it is in kings' palaces. (Proverbs 30:24-28) God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD." (1 Corinthians 1:26-31) An example ...

Why our Nation is in trouble

Image
Hear the word of the LORD... For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land. By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed. Therefore the land will mourn; And everyone who dwells there will waste away With the beasts of the field And the birds of the air; Even the fish of the sea will be taken away. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. * -God, through the prophet Hosea, chapter 4:1-6 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." -Proverbs 1:7 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." -Matthew 5:6 "As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby." -1 Peter 2:2 "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." -John 13:17 ...

Loneliness

Image
People are lonely. It's not supposed to be that way. Why does it happen? While working as a nurse in home care, I met a lot of people who suffered from loneliness. Some of them were seniors. Some were young people. My heart went out to them. Loneliness comes to each of us at different times and for different reasons. At times, as a result of broken relationships. Sometimes its because of the choices we've made. Sometimes because of the choices of others. No matter the reason, I would like to share with you of One who will never leave you or forsake you if you will come to Him. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. He promises to seal you with His Holy Spirit upon believing, and prepare a place for you after this life is over. (Bible references: Hebrews 13:5; Proverbs 18:24; Ephesians 1:13; John 14:1-3) The words in the following song speak of this One. His name is Jesus. They speak of His amazing love! The love that led Him to leave Heaven, and come to earth as our...

Security in Christ when the Storms of life hit

Image
Looking back over the last year of my life, and everything that happened, I can only say it was the grace of God that carried me through. I honestly don’t know how people can walk through life without knowing the Lord in a personal way. There is definitely an increase in drugs and alcohol, especially in the community I am seeking to reach out in. The other day, I was working at the hospital, and admitted a young girl who needed surgery that morning. She advised me that she was starting to feel very anxious especially because she normally has her marijuana every morning to help relax her. I tried to give her some reassurance, and told her that I’d be praying for her. My thought was, "Where do we turn for our security when facing a storm?" Almost everyone I know is going through some trial or storm.   This hymn comes to mind, " Will your anchor hold in the Storms of life ?" Will your anchor hold in the storms of life, when the clouds unfold their wings of strife...
