“I know you by name”

Moses was pleading with God for His presence as the Israelites journeyed to the promised land. So the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” (Exodus 33:17)

What an incredible honour to be known by name, by the Maker of the universe! With David, we can say, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” (Psalms 8:3, 4)

“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.” (Nahum 1:7)

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:15, 16)

Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27, 28)

In God's green pastures feeding, by His cool waters lie,
Soft in the evening walk my Lord and I; All the sheep of His pasture fare so wondrously fine,
His sheep am I.

Waters cool, in the valley pastures green, on the mountain
In the evening walk my Lord and I;
Dark the night, in the valley, rough the way, on the mountain,
Step by step, step by step, my Lord and I. -

Are you His sheep? Does He know you by name? The one who comes to Him, He will by no means cast out! (John 6:37)
