Brokeness

Brokenness. This word came to mind as I was thinking about Jacob‘s encounter with God, (Genesis 32:24-32) and about Paul’s, “thorn in the flesh.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10) Then I began to think about my own health concerns. A long awaited surgery that I was hoping not to have, but with Paul I can say, “Most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) There is something beautiful about coming to a place of utter dependence upon God. A place where you hear Him say, as He did to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Jacob experienced that too as he limped away from his wrestling match with God. Is there something in your life you are wrestling with God about? Something you need to surrender to Him? Paul said, “When I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10) John the Baptist said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

What God has chosen, Not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.” (1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

Give thanks with a grateful heart

Give thanks to the Holy One

Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, "I am strong."

Let the poor say, "I am rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us.” -Don Moen
